Fourth of July Fun In + Around the DMV!

The best spots to watch firework shows

By: Kaitlynn Proffitt

We are luck to be based in the DMV, where there are countless firework shows and celebrations in early July! Below are some of the best in the area. Fireworks are a staple of Independence Day, and these are great options with different factors depending on your needs.

Not only are these the best way to celebrate the Fourth of July, they are also the perfect opportunity to sport some of RUE + ROE’s Red, White, and Blue clothing collection! From tutus to tees, these make for adorable pictures, and on-theme outfits.

The Washington, D.C. Firework Show

This show is always a success! This show starts at 9:09 PM and lasts 17 ½ minutes. The perfect recipe to a perfect July 4th, you can watch these fireworks from multiple iconic spots in D.C., like the National Mall, or the Potomac River. The view of the monuments mixed with the patriotic firework show is the best formula to flexible fourth depending on your needs.

While the fireworks can be breathtaking at this show, they are also very loud, so farther spots from the Potomac River or spots around the city might be better.  If you choose to go to the National Mall, make sure to bring ear protection!

Some other spots to watch from include: the George Washington Memorial Parkway, U.S. Capitol, West and East Potomac Park, Anacostia Park, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, the White House Ellipse, US Marine Corps War Memorial, Netherlands Carillon Grounds, Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Grove, Gravelly Point Park, and the Mount Vernon Trail.

Germantown Glory

This local fireworks festival is iconic, with food trucks, great vantage points, live music, and a spectacular fireworks show. These festivities kick off at 7:00 PM at South Germantown Recreational Park, with fireworks starting around 9:15 PM.

The SoccerPlex has ample space, and if you can’t find parking right at the Discovery Center, there are other viewing spots in the nearby neighborhoods and parks across the street!

Food vendors and the Central City Orchestra make this Independence Day event even more family-friendly and fun. This event is easily accessible, and more convenient if you’re looking for a show more local than D.C.. Not only that, but it is completely free for entry!

Rockville’s Independence Day

This celebration takes place in King Farm on the Fourth, at Mattie J. T. Stepanek Park on 1800 Piccard Drive in Rockville, MD. With live music and a 20 minute firework show, this is the best way to end the day! It lasts from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and is a convenient option for families that want to have fun but stay close to home.

Overall, you can’t go wrong when choosing where to watch fireworks from in the DMV! These options are all great and fulfill different needs for every type of situation. Happy Fourth of July, and don’t forget to rock Rue + Roe outfits for the patriotic occasion
