Valentine’s Day Snacks for Kids
Easy, Simple Valentine's Day Snacks for Kids
February 14th is always a day filled with love, hearts, and lots of chocolate. Children usually have classroom parties with games and fun snacks. For Valentine's Day where you need ideas to keep a kid occupied, either in a classroom party or at home, we have made a list of three Valentine’s Day snacks and food suggestions perfect for spreading lots of love!
Heart Shaped Waffles and Pancakes
Morning fun on Valentine's Day
Waffles and pancakes are always a classic breakfast staple, but for Valentine’s Day, you can make them even more special with a few tools and ingredients. You can pick waffles or pancakes, or both!
If you choose pancakes, you’ll need a heart-shaped metal cookie cutter, or pancake mold (you can find these at local grocery stores and Target). If you decide on waffles, you’ll need a heart-shaped waffle-maker (these can also be found anywhere from Amazon to Williams-Sonoma, for inexpensive prices).
Making these lovely treats wouldn’t be done without special valentine’s toppings! You can add whipped cream, pink sprinkles, fruits like strawberries and raspberries, or anything else you can dream up!
While this is a simple idea, these show kids that Valentine’s Day isn’t a day for just couples, but for friends and family!
Heart-Shaped Rice Krispies
Delicious and easy recipe with kids!
Rice-crispy treats might seem intimidating to make from scratch, so you can choose from two methods: Homemade rice krispies, or store-bought rice krispies.
If you are using store-bought rice krispies, all you need to do to add some Valentine’s Day flavor is use a heart-shaped cookie cutter small enough to cover a rice krispie treat without any empty space, and press down! They’re easy-peasy, and you have cute hearts that could be great to give out to an entire class, or keep at home for family.
However, if you choose to make rice krispies from scratch, here is the recipe I trust (from barefeetinthekitchen.com, How To Make Perfect Rice Krispy Treats), and the materials you’ll need.
For these rice krispies, you need:
-
8 cups of mini marshmallows
-
6 cups of rice krispies cereal
-
6 tbsp butter
Heat the butter and marshmallows in a pan over medium-heart, and once melted, pour in the cereal and mix everything together. Next, spread the mixture evenly over a parchment-lined baking pan or sheet, and let it cool completely before cutting!
Like the previous method, use a heart-shaped cookie cutter on the now-done rice krispies. If you want to decorate even more, you can dip the hearts in melted chocolate and add fun sprinkles!
Valentine’s Themed Kabobs
Valentine's Treat for Picky Eaters!
These are a perfect sweet treat with healthy components! These kabobs are completely customizable, which makes them perfect for children with allergies and different likes or dislikes.
For these snacks, all you need to do is slide different fruits and marshmallows onto a skewer. To customize these even more for Valentine’s day, you can use chocolate-covered strawberries, or cut a v-shape into the top of a strawberry to make it a heart.
Once these are assembled, you can dip them in melted chocolate, or simply drizzle chocolate on top. Simple and sweet, these are also great for classroom parties, or after-school snacks!
On a day filled with love, what tastes better than food that was made with love? All three of these snacks are tried and true Valentine’s Day winners. I hope you have as much fun making these as I have, and that these help brighten up a day already filled with hearts!
